Paint failure is not a linear relationship! Generally, the first two-thirds of a coating’s life cycle is without failure followed by an exponential failure relationship in the final third. The key to protective coating asset optimization is touching up or oven-coating the asset in the early phase of the exponential failure. Performing preventative maintenance within this window of opportunity can reduce painting cost dramatically due to the minimal amount of surface preparation required. Controlling corrosion in a planned systematic cost-effective fashion is the goal of a Coatings Management Program.
